Our Story
How it all Started
Richard reached out to Shawn and Sam on Facebook in 2018 while attending medical school. He shared his vision for reaching people for Christ. Shawn knew some people from church in his hometown who had gone to serve alongside Richard in Uganda. Praying to God asking him what he would have Shawn and Sam do with their tithe money, He led them to began partnering with Richard. They have been faithfully sending Richard their tithes and offerings, who has been a faithful steward in building HAM Ministry in Uganda as the boots on the ground.
Following the completion of his diploma program in Clinical Medicine in 2019, Richard returned to his hometown of Kitgum and discovered a profound opportunity to make a difference in the surrounding villages. To address this need, he initially rented a motorcycle and eventually purchased one, embodying the spirit of selfless service. Richard's ministry involves traveling to support families in obtaining essential necessities like shoes, clothes, food, and medical care, while also sharing the transformative power of the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus.
Richard and his team radiated hope and kindness by meticulously rebuilding a dilapidated hut for a selfless grandmother who was compassionately caring for her two grandchildren suffering from nodding syndrome in 2020.
In December 2019, a discipleship center was established in Gangdyang village, Pandwong division, Kitgum, Uganda. Since its inception, the center has been hosting between 30 to 50 Christian youths and adults on a weekly basis for biblical counseling, fellowship, bible study, worship, and prayer. Furthermore, the center provides monthly training in inductive bible study to over 50 Christians from various churches, equipping them to lead smaller bible study groups in homes and churches. this two-day training program includes the provision of bibles and inductive bibles study materials to support their small group bible studies.
We prayed for a larger land to establish a school, discipleship center, and a medical clinic. In 2021, God provided funding for 490,000 square feet of land, spanning 11.5 acres, in Angoko village, providing ample space for the envisioned community services. The land is situated approximately 18 kilometers from the center. In 2022, we initiated teaching children under the trees while constructing the classroom. We have since constructed a storehouse, one classroom block, a four-room toilet, a kitchen block, and a laboratory block. In 2023, elementary-aged children started attending classes in the newly constructed classroom, divided into three sections for K1, K2, and K3 students. Since its inception in 2022, the student population has grown to 170 in 2025, distributed across five classes. Each year, students in the top class advance to the next level, with the current top class being Primary Two. We provide meals to the children while teaching them about Jesus alongside basic education.
Shawn and Sam began training a team of 7 leaders via Zoom in 2023 to establish a Celebrate Recovery program at the discipleship center, with translation support from Richard. As Kitgum currently lacks health and addiction services, our goal is to provide individuals with a pathway to freedom from their struggles through the Celebrate Recovery at the discipleship center in a newly built temporary structure, which remails the program's venue to this day.
